RAMY ASHOUR v NICOLAS MUELLER
Adrian Grant has withdrawn from the NAO so No.2 seed Ramy Ashour now plays Nicolas Mueller of Switzerland in the first round.
Nic will be delighted to go straight into the main draw without having to qualify, and despite the enormity of the task he must relish the chance of meeting Ramy.
Mueller is improving quickly, and lists tennis ace Roger Federer as one of his sporting idols.
He bumped into the great man in Switzerland prior to last year’s Canary Wharf tournament and before his first round tie against No.2 seed Gregory Gaultier he admitted that the Grand Slam legend had given him some advice about life on the pro circuit.
After the match, which Nic lost 11-7, 11-3, 11-2, we discussed the merits of Federer’s wisdom. “Not as good as I’d hoped,” he said.
